Standard image pins
The safest target for a standard Pin:
- 2:3 vertical aspect ratio, roughly 1000×1500. Pinterest's own data favors this ratio over square or landscape
- JPG, PNG, or WEBP, kept well under the platform's upload size cap
- A pin significantly taller than 2:3 risks getting cropped in the main feed, so avoid stretching much beyond that ratio
Video pins
A full vertical video, 9:16 (1080×1920), is the safest default and displays edge-to-edge in the feed. Several other ratios are technically accepted, but a vertical format consistently performs better on a platform where most browsing happens on a phone.
Text overlay and readability
Most Pins are seen small, in a dense feed of other Pins, so any text overlay has to stay legible at a reduced size. A large, high-contrast headline works far better than a paragraph of small text laid over the image.
