TikTok video specs (dimensions, length, file size)

The safe defaults for a feed video, plus the length and file-size limits that vary by device and upload method.

Dimensions and format

The safest target for a standard TikTok video:

  • 9:16 vertical, 1080×1920 resolution; a 1:1 square upload is also accepted
  • MP4 or MOV container, H.264 video codec and AAC audio for the most reliable results

Length

A video recorded directly in the app is capped at several minutes; a video uploaded from a file can run considerably longer. In practice the strongest completion rates still come from much shorter videos, well under a minute, even though the platform allows far more. Completion rate is the strongest signal to the recommendation system.

File size

The size limit varies by device and by whether the upload comes from the mobile app or a desktop browser, and the cap has moved around over time. Check the current limit in-app before assuming a number from an older guide still holds. Compressing to a reasonable bitrate before upload avoids running into it either way.
