The short answer
A content distribution strategy is a deliberate plan for how a piece of content reaches an audience after it is created: which platforms it goes to, in what format, on what schedule, and through which channels beyond a single organic post. It is a separate question from content creation itself.
Creating content and distributing it are different skills
A strong piece of content with a weak distribution plan can underperform a weaker piece distributed well: repurposed across platforms, shared through an email list, mentioned in other content. Treating distribution as its own step, rather than an afterthought once content is finished, produces meaningfully more reach from the same underlying work.
A basic distribution plan for a single piece of content
A reasonable starting checklist once a piece of content is ready:
- Which platforms it will be repurposed for, and in what format
- Whether it gets mentioned in an email newsletter, not just posted once on social
- Whether it links to or from other relevant content already published
- A rough staggered timeline, rather than publishing every version simultaneously
