It tests early, then expands
A new post is shown to a limited slice of an audience first. How that slice responds, in replies, reposts, and dwell time, determines whether the system shows it more broadly. A post that earns genuine early engagement gets tested with a wider audience. One that gets scrolled past mostly stops there.
Replies carry more weight than likes
A reply takes real effort compared to a like, and it is a much clearer signal that a post started a conversation. A post with fewer likes but a real reply thread underneath travels further than one with many likes and no discussion. Conversation quality is weighted more than raw reaction volume.
Native video and account credibility both matter
Video uploaded directly, especially shorter clips watched through to a meaningful point, gets a distribution advantage over an outbound link to video hosted elsewhere. An account's overall history matters separately. Consistent engagement over time counts for more than one viral post, and it factors into how much reach future posts start with.
