X analytics: what the numbers actually mean

Impressions tell you reach; replies tell you whether the post started something. The second number matters more than it gets credit for.

Impressions measure exposure, not impact

An impression is counted the moment a post appears on someone's screen, whether or not they read it. A high impression count with little else happening under it means a post reached people without landing. Worth noticing, not celebrating.

Replies are a stronger signal than likes

A reply takes real effort compared to a like, and it is the clearest evidence a post started a conversation rather than being glanced at approvingly. A post with fewer likes but a real reply thread underneath is doing more for an account's reach than the raw numbers suggest.

Track your own trend, not a single post's numbers

A single post's numbers are noisy. One post catching an unusual audience does not mean the account's overall approach changed. Watching engagement rate and reply volume across several weeks gives a far more reliable read on whether a change in approach is working.
