How to collaborate with other creators

A genuine audience overlap and a genuinely complementary angle matter more to a successful collaboration than a creator's follower count alone.

Look for complementary audiences, not just similar size

A collaboration works best when it introduces each creator to a relevant new audience, not just a similarly sized one. Two creators in the same niche, or in adjacent niches with real audience overlap, tend to produce far more value for both than a collaboration based on follower count.

A clear, specific format works better than a vague plan

Decide the format in advance: a joint video, a swapped guest appearance, a challenge. That tends to produce a more focused, higher-quality result than a vague agreement to "do something together" worked out on the fly.

Cross-post deliberately, not as an afterthought

Plan in advance how each creator will promote the collaboration on their own channels. Assuming it happens automatically is what leaves reach on the table for both sides.

Start small before committing to something larger

A smaller, lower-effort collaboration is a reasonable way to test whether working with someone is a good fit before committing to a bigger project together. It reveals compatibility in a way a single conversation cannot.
