Social media for solo creators: a one-person workflow

Running every channel alone means every hour spent posting is an hour not spent making the thing that made people follow you. Here is a workflow built around that.

The actual constraint is time, not ideas

Most advice aimed at solo creators focuses on content ideas, but running out of ideas is rarely the bottleneck. The bottleneck is that every hour spent captioning, formatting, and posting by hand across channels is an hour not spent filming, writing, or editing, which is the work that made people follow you. Build a one-person workflow around protecting that time, not around generating more ideas to fill it.

Batch the parts that don’t need to happen daily

Filming, writing, and editing benefit from focus, and often from being close to the moment they cover. Captioning, formatting for each platform, and scheduling almost never do. They are the same task repeated with different inputs, which is what batching is for. Set aside one block of time to turn a week's worth of finished content into scheduled posts, instead of doing it once per post, per day.

One post, many platforms, but not one caption everywhere

Posting the same content across every platform saves real time and is a reasonable choice for a one-person operation. Posting the identical caption everywhere usually isn't. A caption written for LinkedIn reads oddly on Instagram, and the reverse is just as true. A small amount of per-platform adjustment goes a long way, and it is far less work than writing each caption from scratch.

Protect one day a week from posting entirely

A one-person operation with no gap between creating and constantly managing distribution burns out faster than the content itself would suggest. Treat at least one day a week as properly off: nothing scheduled to check, nothing to respond to. That is sustainable in a way that posting seven days a week for months on end usually isn't.

Run every channel from one calendar.

Every channel you have, included. Adding another does not change the price.
