The direct answer
A social media audit is a structured review of an account’s performance, content, and presence, done periodically rather than continuously. It tells you what is working, what isn’t, and what has gone stale: a bio link that no longer works, a platform nobody has posted to in months.
What belongs in one
A reasonable audit covers more than metrics:
- Which recent posts performed above or below your own average, and any pattern behind it
- Whether profile basics are current: bio, link-in-bio contents, profile image
- Whether posting cadence has matched the plan, not just the intention
- Whether any platform has gone dormant without anyone deciding to stop posting there
Why it needs to be honest to be useful
An audit written to justify the current plan is a summary, not an audit. The value comes from being willing to conclude that something isn't working, even if that means changing a plan someone already committed time to. A quarterly check-in, done honestly, catches drift long before it becomes a real problem.
