What a content pillar is
A content pillar is a recurring theme or format that a meaningful share of a channel’s videos fall under. Not a rigid category, just a pattern a regular viewer would recognize. A channel usually works best with a small number of pillars, rather than one topic per video with no throughline connecting them.
Why a small number of pillars works better than none
With no consistent pillars, every video starts from a blank page, which makes both planning and audience expectations harder. A small set of recurring pillars gives you a structure to plan around: this week is a tutorial, the week after is a case study. It also gives a viewer a reason to expect what comes next, which is part of what earns a subscribe rather than a one-time view.
How to find your own, instead of copying someone else’s
The more reliable way to find real pillars is to look at what you have already made that performed well, and ask what those videos have in common: format, topic, tone. Pillars that emerge from your own results fit your channel better than a generic template borrowed from an unrelated creator.
