Facebook video and image specs

A reference for the numbers that matter most before posting. Feed images, video, Stories, and Reels each have their own recommended dimensions.

Images

Safe defaults for a standard feed image post:

  • Portrait, roughly 1080×1350 (4:5), tends to take up the most space in a mobile feed
  • Square (1080×1080) and landscape (1200×630) are both supported alternatives
  • JPG or PNG, kept well under the platform's upload size cap

Video and Reels

Safe defaults depending on the format:

  • Reels and Stories: vertical 9:16, 1080×1920
  • Standard feed video: landscape 1280×720 (16:9) or square 1080×1080
  • MP4 or MOV, kept under the platform's file size cap. Check the current limit before a large upload, since it has moved over time

When in doubt, default to vertical

Given how much weight Reels and video carry in the current feed, a vertical 9:16 clip is the safer default for new video content unless there is a specific reason to shoot landscape. It works across Reels, Stories, and the main feed without a separate crop.
