PostEaseAsking directly is a requirement, not a courtesy
Tagging or crediting the original creator is a courtesy; it is not the same as permission. Reposting someone else's content without asking first can be a copyright issue even with credit given. Asking explicitly, in a comment or a direct message, and keeping a record of the response, is the protection here. The credit is not.
A specific ask converts better than a vague one
A specific message that names the exact post and explains how and where it would be reposted gets a faster, clearer response than a vague "can we use your content?" Most creators are flattered to be asked and say yes quickly when the ask is specific and takes little thought to answer.
Credit clearly, in the post itself, not in a caption that might get cut off
Tagging the original creator directly, and mentioning them by name in the visible part of the caption rather than buried at the end, gives them visible credit and gives their own followers a clear path back to their account. That is the point of asking in the first place, beyond covering the legal basics.
