How to repurpose content for TikTok

Content built for another platform reads as an ad on TikTok unless it is reframed to look native to the app rather than just resized.

Resizing is not the same as repurposing

Cropping a landscape video to a vertical frame gets the dimensions right but does not fix the bigger mismatch. Polished, ad-like footage underperforms on TikTok regardless of its aspect ratio. The framing and tone need to change, not just the shape.

Reframe around a hook, not the original structure

A longer video's structure, with its intro, context, and main point, rarely survives the trip to TikTok intact. Pull out the most interesting moment or claim from the source and build a short new piece around it as the opening, rather than compressing the original structure into a shorter runtime.

Add a layer that feels native to the app

A trending sound, on-screen text that mirrors how captions are typically used on the platform, or a direct-to-camera addition can make repurposed footage feel like it belongs on TikTok, rather than looking like an import from somewhere else.
