LinkedIn post specs (character limit, image and video dimensions)

A reference for the numbers that matter most before publishing: text length, image dimensions, and video limits.

Text length

A LinkedIn post allows up to 3,000 characters, though only the first few lines show before a reader has to tap "see more." Whatever earns that tap should come first, the same principle that applies to a caption's opening line elsewhere.

Images

Safe defaults for a single-image post:

  • Square, 1200×1200 or 1080×1080, a reliable default across both desktop and mobile feeds
  • Landscape, roughly 1200×627, if a wider image suits the content better
  • Keep the file size well under the platform's upload cap to avoid a failed or slow upload

Video and documents

Native video can run to several minutes, but shorter videos that get watched to the end tend to perform better than longer ones that lose viewers partway through, the same pattern that holds on most video-ranked feeds. Document posts (PDF carousels) are a strong native alternative to video for material that reads more like a slide deck than a moving image.
