X video and image specs (dimensions, length, character limit)

A reference for the numbers that matter most before posting: character limit, image dimensions, and video length and file size.

Character limit

A standard post is capped at 280 characters. Premium subscribers have access to much longer posts, but a shorter, self-contained post tends to be easier to read and reply to in a feed built around quick scrolling either way.

Video

Safe defaults for a standard account:

  • 16:9 landscape (1280×720 or 1920×1080) or 9:16 vertical, both supported
  • MP4 or MOV, H.264 video codec with AAC audio
  • Up to 140 seconds (2 minutes 20 seconds) and 512MB for a standard account. Premium accounts have access to much longer uploads and larger file sizes

Images

JPG, PNG, WEBP, and GIF are all supported, with a per-image file size limit well under what a typical phone photo produces. A landscape or square crop both display cleanly in the feed; there is no single required aspect ratio the way there is for a Story or a Reel elsewhere.
