The direct answer
A carousel post is a single post that contains several images or slides, which a viewer swipes or clicks through in order. It is one post in the feed, but it can hold as much content as a short slideshow: a step-by-step guide, a set of examples, a before-and-after sequence.
What it is good for
A carousel tends to fit content that has a natural sequence or several distinct parts:
- A step-by-step process, one step per slide
- A list of examples or tips, one per slide
- A single idea broken into a build-up and a payoff across several slides
The risk of forcing content into the format
Not every idea benefits from being split into slides. A single strong image with a solid caption sometimes says more, and says it faster, than a carousel padded out to hit a slide count. The format suits sequential or multi-part content, not every post.
