Best time to post on X in 2026

The short answer

Post on X, formerly Twitter, on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, between 9 a.m. and the middle of the afternoon in your audience’s local time. Buffer’s analysis of 8.7 million posts finds 9 a.m. the best hour on every day of the week but one, with Tuesday at 9 a.m. the top slot. Sprout Social finds Tuesday to Thursday strongest from noon to 6 p.m.

Avoid Saturday. Buffer ranks it the worst day, with Friday second-worst, and Sprout Social’s advice for Saturday is to avoid posting. Start at 9 a.m. or noon midweek, then test which of the two your followers prefer.

What two 2026 studies found

Both studies agree on the days. They differ on the hour: Buffer’s peak is the start of the working day, Sprout Social’s is the afternoon.

The best time to post on X, day by day

If you post on a fixed day, this is what each study suggests for it, in local time. Sprout Social rates Friday and Sunday as moderate, and has no recommended time on Saturday.

Why the hour matters on X

X moves faster than any other major platform. Its Following tab lists posts newest first, so a post published while your followers are asleep is buried under everything posted before they wake. In the ranked For You tab, a post spreads through replies and reposts, and those come from people who are online when it appears.

X’s own Help Center confirms both halves. The Following timeline “displays posts only from the accounts you follow and they are shown in reverse chronological order,” and For You sets out to find “recent and relevant content” from the hundreds of millions of posts made each day. It also notes that X reopens on whichever tab you last had open, so many readers stay on one view.

That is why both studies favour the working day. People check X at the start of it, around lunch, and in the afternoon, and the hours in the table above follow that pattern. A post that lands at 9 a.m. on a Wednesday meets the most people at the moment they are reading.

If you post more than once a day

Spread the posts across the two windows the studies favour rather than stacking them: one around 9 a.m., when Buffer finds X busiest, and one in the early afternoon, inside Sprout Social’s noon to 6 p.m. peak. Two posts minutes apart compete with each other for the same readers; two posts hours apart each meet a fresh set of them, and tell you which window your followers prefer.

How to find your own best time to post on X

Three steps, over about a month:

• Pick two slots the studies disagree on, such as Wednesday at 9 a.m. and Wednesday at 1 p.m.
• Post the same kind of post in each slot for three or four weeks. Compare the typical impressions and replies in each slot, not the single post that took off.
• Keep the winner, then test it against a third slot. Re-check each quarter, because news cycles and your followers’ habits move.

Post in your audience’s time zone

Both studies report local time, meaning the time where your followers are. If most of them are in one country, use its clock. If they are spread out, choose the hours where the largest groups overlap, and schedule ahead so a 9 a.m. post in New York does not mean posting at 6 a.m. in Los Angeles.
