How to go LIVE on TikTok

What you need to go LIVE on TikTok (18+, 1,000 followers in most regions), how to start one, how Gifts and Diamonds work, and the safety tools for hosts.

The short answer

To go LIVE on TikTok you must be at least 18 and, in most regions, have 1,000 followers. In the TikTok app, tap the Add post button, scroll to LIVE, add a title and settings, and tap Go LIVE. There is no limit on how long a LIVE can run.

TikTok Support describes LIVE as a way for “viewers and creators to interact in real time,” with effects, multi-guest hosting, moderation and LIVE Gifts. LIVE and Gift features are not available everywhere.

Gifts, Diamonds and rankings

Viewers can send virtual Gifts during your LIVE. TikTok turns those into Diamonds for you, which can be paid out as cash rewards; turn on LIVE Gifts in settings, then find Balance in your profile settings to withdraw. A weekly ranking lists creators by Diamonds collected: the top 20 get prizes, and hosts ranked four to ten are featured on an Explore More page. You can opt out of rankings.

Safety tools for hosts

TikTok’s LIVE Safety Guide points out that a LIVE “is broadcast in real time and cannot be edited during your stream.” The tools it lists:

Making LIVEs work

From TikTok’s own guidance:

  • Go LIVE often: TikTok says building a loyal LIVE audience takes regular streams, and quiet ones are normal.
  • Keep it interactive; TikTok may close a LIVE room if the host is inactive and fails its check.
  • Viewers find LIVEs in the LIVE tab and in their For You and Following feeds, inbox, search and profiles, so a clear title helps.
  • Name a trusted moderator before you start, rather than mid-stream.

Going LIVE and PostEase

The LIVE itself runs in TikTok. PostEase plans the announcement posts around it on every other platform from one calendar. YouTube, X, LinkedIn (personal profile), Pinterest, Bluesky, and WordPress publishing are live today; Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Threads are pending each platform's own API approval.
