Later alternatives, compared

Later sells profiles in social sets, one per platform; Starter has 1 set (8 profiles). Twenty-two alternatives compared by entry-plan channel cap.

The short answer

Later sells access in social sets rather than a flat number of accounts. Its pricing page defines a social set as one profile from each of the platforms Later supports, and its cheapest plan, Starter, includes “1 social set (8 profiles total)”. Later lists no free plan; each plan starts with a 14-day free trial.

People look for an alternative when the set structure does not fit how they post: two accounts on the same platform, such as a personal and a brand Instagram, need a second set, which starts on the next plan up. Others want a plan that stays free, or a tool that also covers editing, the inbox and a link-in-bio page.

The table further down compares twenty-two alternatives by how many channels their entry plan allows, read from each vendor’s own pricing page on the date shown. PostEase, which publishes this comparison, has no channel cap on any plan, the free one included.

How Later counts profiles

Later’s plans are sized in social sets. A set holds one profile per supported platform, so the “profiles total” figure is the most you can connect only if you use every platform once per set. A business on three platforms uses three of the eight profiles in a Starter set; a second account on any of those platforms needs a second set.

Starter1 social set (8 profiles total)1 user; schedule up to 30 posts per profile; Link in Bio

Scale6 social sets (48 profiles total)4 users; custom analytics; competitive benchmarking; unlimited posts

Twenty-two Later alternatives by channel cap

Each figure is the vendor’s cheapest plan and the channel limit it states, in its own words. Prices are left out on purpose: they change too often, and differ by billing period and currency, to compare fairly. Most tools count a flat number of accounts on any platform, which is the main way they differ from Later’s sets.

Why people leave Later

Later is a well-known visual planner, and for an account that posts once to each platform its sets can fit well. The reasons people look elsewhere are mostly about fit:

  • Two accounts on one platform. A set holds one profile per platform, so a second Instagram or TikTok account means a second set, which starts on Growth.
  • No free plan. Later’s pricing page lists paid plans with a 14-day trial, so there is no plan to stay on for nothing while posting lightly.
  • More tools for the rest of the job. Editing video, answering every comment and DM, and a link-in-bio page may each need another app, depending on the plan.

What to compare

Before choosing, check the things that change what you pay and what you do every day:

  • Channels: how the plan you would buy counts accounts, flat or per platform, and what the next one costs.
  • Platforms: whether the platforms you post to are live for publishing, not only listed.
  • Inbox: whether comments and messages from every channel arrive in one place you can reply from.
  • Video: whether you can edit and caption short videos in the same tool or need another app.
  • Team: whether teammates cost extra, and whether you need approvals at all.
  • Leaving: whether you can bring your existing calendar, and cancel without contacting anyone.

How PostEase compares, honestly

PostEase has no channel cap on any plan and counts no sets: connect two Instagram accounts or ten, on any plan. Free includes every channel, 10 scheduled posts a month, publishing and the inbox; Creator, at $15 a month, adds Studio for video, Ideas, Automations, full Performance and the media kit. YouTube, X, LinkedIn (personal profile), Pinterest, Bluesky, and WordPress publishing are live today; Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Threads are pending each platform's own API approval.

If you need Instagram or TikTok publishing today, check that status first. If you post to the live platforms, or want scheduling, the inbox, video editing and a link-in-bio page in one place without a cap on accounts, PostEase is built for that.

Moving your calendar from Later

PostEase imports a CSV with a caption and a date column, guesses the rest, shows each column it matched for you to confirm, and brings the posts in as drafts, up to 500 rows a file. It cannot read a Later calendar export today, so the import screen suggests asking Later’s support for a CSV of your scheduled posts, or re-creating your next two weeks in the composer, which is usually quicker than it sounds.
