What is a Bluesky starter pack?

A Bluesky starter pack is a shareable set of up to 150 accounts and 3 feeds that newcomers can follow in one step. How to make one and get into others.

The short answer

A Bluesky starter pack is a named collection of recommended accounts and custom feeds that anyone can share as a link. Someone who opens it can follow the accounts and add the feeds in one go, so a newcomer to a field starts with a full timeline instead of an empty one.

Bluesky introduced them in June 2024 as “personalized invites that allow you to bring friends directly into your slice of Bluesky.” Anyone with an account can make one, and a person without an account can join Bluesky through one and start with its recommendations.

What a starter pack holds

The limits come from Bluesky’s launch post and the AT Protocol’s definition of the starter pack record:

Making one

Starter packs live in a Starter Packs tab on your profile, next to media and likes. Bluesky offers two ways to start: “Make one for me” fills a pack with suggested users and custom feeds that you can then edit, or Create builds one from scratch. You set the name, description, accounts and feeds, and you can make more than one.

Bluesky notifies you when someone joins through your pack, which makes a pack a measurable invite as well as a list.

Getting into someone else’s pack

Packs are curated by people, so the way in is through people:

  • Find the packs for your field: Bluesky’s launch post says packs did not show in search then, so they travel as links and as embeds in posts.
  • Post steadily on the topic the pack covers; a curator adds accounts that already fit.
  • Ask the curator directly, with a line on what you post about.
  • Make your own pack for your field and include the people you learn from; a good pack is shared, and its curator is seen.

Leaving a pack you were added to

You can be added to a pack without asking. In 2024 Bluesky’s answer was blocking: “When you block the creator of a starter pack, you will be filtered out of their starter pack,” and packs can be reported to Bluesky’s moderation team from the three-dot menu.

In August 2026 the AT Protocol added a quieter option to its definitions: a record “requesting that its author be omitted from the public presentation of a reference list,” the kind of list a starter pack uses. It lets an account ask to be left out of a pack’s public view without blocking its creator.

Starter packs and PostEase

PostEase publishes to Bluesky, so you can schedule the post that shares your starter pack’s link, and the posts that keep you a fit for other people’s packs, beside every other platform on one calendar. YouTube, X, LinkedIn (personal profile), Pinterest, Bluesky, and WordPress publishing are live today; Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Threads are pending each platform's own API approval.
