The short answer
X Creator Subscriptions let anyone pay a creator a monthly fee for subscriber-only content and closer access, such as bonus posts and conversation. Subscribers get a badge next to their name when they reply to the creator, so the creator can spot them.
X’s Help Center says Subscriptions let you “earn recurring income directly from your most loyal followers,” with your earnings set by how many subscribers you have and the price you choose, “minus standard platform fees (like Apple or Google).” Subscriptions can be bought on X for iOS, Android and the web, worldwide.
Who can offer subscriptions
X’s Subscriptions policy lists the requirements, and says meeting them does not guarantee acceptance:
| Requirement | What X asks |
|---|---|
| Age | 18 or older |
| Profile | Complete: name, bio, profile picture and header image; not impersonating anyone |
| Security | A verified email and two-factor authentication |
| Subscription | X Premium, Premium Business or Premium Organizations, or a qualifying plan on The X Subscription |
| Account | Active for 3 months or more, with a post in the last 30 days |
| Audience | 2,000 or more active followers with Premium, and 5,000,000 organic impressions in the last 3 months |
| Identity | Completed identity verification |
Rules for what you sell
The policy also sets conduct and content rules:
| Rule | What it means |
|---|---|
| Original content | Monetise only content that is yours or that you have the rights to, including background audio |
| No harmful offers | Do not ask for money for content or behaviour that is illegal or harmful |
| No deception | Do not mislead people about who receives the money |
| No ad promotion | Subscriptions content must not be promoted through X Ads |
Pricing and payment
The creator sets the monthly price by choosing from price points X offers. X says earnings are subscriber numbers times price, less platform fees such as Apple’s or Google’s on in-app purchases. If X detects that an account may be compromised, it turns monetisation off until the account is restored.
Within X Premium itself, Creator Subscriptions come with the Premium and Premium+ tiers, not Basic. Breaking the rules can mean less reach to people who do not follow you, a pause or permanent end to Subscriptions, or removal of the content.
Subscriptions or Original Content Rewards
X has two creator income programmes with different bars. Original Content Rewards pays for qualified impressions on public posts and asks for 500 verified followers; Subscriptions pays from fans directly for subscriber-only content and asks for 2,000 active followers with Premium. The bar for Original Content Rewards is lower on both counts: fewer followers, and 500,000 verified impressions over 90 days against 5,000,000 organic impressions over 3 months.
