The short answer
Creator Search Insights is TikTok’s tool for searching on TikTok from a creator’s side. It shows popular search topics, topics people search for that have few good videos, and how your own videos perform in TikTok search: views, impressions, click-through and ranking.
TikTok’s Creator Academy says it offers “personalized insights into popular search topics on TikTok” to help you “source inspiration for your content, tailor creative strategies to your audience, and identify untapped content opportunities.” It is not available in every region yet.
How to open it
There is no menu item to hunt for. TikTok describes two routes:
- Type “Creator Search Insights” into TikTok’s search bar, press enter, and tap View. You must be logged in for the personalised version.
- In English-speaking regions, open TikTok Studio from your profile menu, scroll to Creation inspirations, tap Recommended, then Searched for.
- If it is not available in your region, TikTok offers a Notify me button for when it arrives.
The search metrics
Tap the Search Analytics banner to see how your own videos do in search. TikTok defines five metrics:
| Metric | What it measures |
|---|---|
| Search views | Times your posts were viewed on the search results page |
| Search view percentage | The share of total views that came from search results and the search feed |
| Search impressions | Times your video appeared in search results, clicked or not |
| Average click-through rate | Search views divided by search impressions |
| Average search ranking | Your video’s position on the search results page |
Topics, detail pages and content gaps
The rest of the tool is about what to make. From TikTok’s Creator Academy:
| Tool | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Detail page | A topic’s search popularity over the past week by default, filterable by time and region |
| Demographic details | The age, gender and location of people searching for a topic |
| Related videos | Videos doing well on the topic, and related topics people search |
| Content gap | Topics with many searches but few high-quality videos yet |
| Audience search topics | What your own audience searches for, for creators with at least 1,000 followers |
Making search-friendly videos
TikTok’s own advice for using what the tool shows:
- Choose topics with growing search popularity, and publish while the trend is still rising.
- Think about intent: what is the person searching for, and why?
- Put the search topic and related keywords in your description and on-screen text.
- Use relevant hashtags, but do not pile on irrelevant or repeated ones.
- Fill content gaps with specific, informative videos: TikTok says videos that match a precise search are more likely to get longer watch times and better rankings.
