How to grow on Threads: the complete guide

How to grow on Threads: start conversations, reply within the hour, post weekday mornings, join communities and skip link posts. What Meta and the data say.

The short answer

Grow on Threads by starting conversations and staying for them. Meta’s system card for the Threads feed says it predicts whether a person will like a post, reply to it, open it, visit the author’s profile or scroll past, and the feed mixes posts from accounts people follow with public posts from accounts they do not. A post that earns replies is shown to more people, even from a small account.

The rest is rhythm and place. Buffer found accounts earned about 42% more engagement on posts where they replied to comments; its timing study puts the best slots on weekday mornings, with Wednesday and Thursday strongest; and Meta says Threads’ growth past 500 million monthly users is driven by communities built around shared topics.

Write to be answered

Meta lists the predictions behind the Threads feed, and most of them are about attention and conversation: will the person reply, spend time on the post, open it, visit your profile. A post that only announces something gives people little to do. A specific question, an opinion someone might disagree with, or a short story with a turn gives them a reason to reply, which is the signal the feed counts. Because the feed shows public posts to people who do not follow you, each good post is also how new people find you.

Find your communities

Threads communities are public spaces for one topic, such as basketball, books or K-pop, with their own feed. Meta introduced them in October 2025 and took them out of beta in June 2026. Posting in a community puts you in front of people who chose that topic, and members who post regularly and keep conversations going can be named community champions, with a badge on their profile.

A routine to start with

A plan that follows the evidence and fits a busy week:

  • Three or four posts a week to start: a view, a question, a moment from your work, and one image or short video.
  • Post on a weekday morning, and block the hour after to reply.
  • Pick one or two communities and post there as well as on your profile.
  • Every month, compare replies and new followers with the time spent, and keep what earned them.

Questions

How do you get followers on Threads?

Post things people want to reply to, answer the replies, post on weekday mornings, and take part in the communities for your topic. The Threads feed shows public posts to people who do not follow you, so good posts reach new people.

Do links hurt reach on Threads?

In Buffer’s 2026 report, link posts earned the least engagement on Threads, 2.34% of reach, against 5.55% for video and 4.55% for images.

How often should you post on Threads to grow?

Buffer says daily or several-a-day posting goes with stronger growth, and three or four posts a week is a fine place to start.
