How to schedule Threads posts

Two ways to schedule Threads posts: Threads’ own scheduling on the web, and a scheduler that publishes through the Threads API. Limits, sizes and timing.

The short answer

There are two ways to schedule a Threads post. Meta announced its own scheduling for Threads on the web in August 2024 as a way to “create Threads posts and schedule them to publish at a later date and time,” with multiple posts a day, several days ahead. Or you can use a scheduler that publishes through the Threads API, Meta’s official interface for apps.

Through the API, Meta limits each Threads profile to 250 published posts in a rolling 24 hours, counting a carousel as one post, and 1,000 replies. Those limits are far above a normal plan, so in practice what matters is the time you pick: Buffer’s study of 2.5 million posts puts the best slots on weekday mornings, with Wednesday and Thursday strongest.

The limits Meta publishes for posts made through the API:

Threads post limits, from Meta’s Threads API documentation
WhatLimit
TextUp to 500 characters
LinksUp to 5 per post
Topic tag1 per post, up to 50 characters
Carousel2 to 20 items, photos, videos or a mix
ImageJPEG or PNG, up to 8 MB
VideoMP4 or MOV, up to 1 GB and 5 minutes

Pick the time in your audience’s time zone

Buffer’s analysis of 2.5 million Threads posts puts the top slots at Thursday 9 a.m., Wednesday 12 p.m. and Wednesday 9 a.m., in the audience’s local time, and finds posts sent from 6 to 11 p.m. underperform on every day. Because replies count for a lot on Threads, schedule for a time when you can also be there for the first hour: Buffer found accounts earned about 42% more engagement on posts where they replied to comments.

Scheduling Threads in PostEase

PostEase schedules Threads posts from the same composer as every other platform: text-only posts, an image or video, or a carousel of up to 20 items, on one calendar beside your other channels. YouTube, X, LinkedIn (personal profile), Pinterest, Bluesky, and WordPress publishing are live today; Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Threads are pending each platform's own API approval.
