What are Facebook Stars?

Facebook Stars are bought by fans and sent to creators on reels, lives, videos and posts. Who can earn, what Meta pays per Star, and when payouts arrive.

The short answer

Facebook Stars are a way for fans to pay a creator directly on Facebook. Meta’s Business Help Center says viewers “can buy Stars from Meta and use them to appreciate your gaming, live, on-demand, reel, photo, or text content.” Stars are available to creators on professional mode profiles and Pages.

The creator earns from Meta, not from the fan. Facebook for Creators puts it plainly: “For every Star you receive from a fan, you earn 1 cent from Meta.” Meta’s Stars Streamer Terms set the same rate, $0.01 USD for every Star sold by Meta and used on your content, minus deductions.

Who can earn

Facebook for Creators lists these requirements, and Meta’s Business Help Center adds the policies and terms behind them:

Turning Stars on and off

Once you are onboarded, Meta says you can enable or disable Stars on eligible content at any time from the Options menu on a reel or post. Facebook for Creators suggests checking that Stars is enabled on each reel from its three-dot menu. Meta also points creators to the Creator Perks tool in the professional dashboard, which tracks milestones and progress toward monetization eligibility.

How the bar was lowered

On June 14, 2023, Meta lowered the Stars requirements “so that more creators who are just starting out can earn money through the support of their fans”: creators then needed 500 followers, down from 1,000, over the past 30 days, down from 60. Facebook for Creators now states the bar as 500 followers for at least 30 consecutive days.

Making Stars worth sending

Facebook for Creators lists its own best practices: create a Stars goal, promote Stars regularly, recognize and interact with the people who send them, and review your Stars insights. Because a Star is worth one cent to you, Stars reward a loyal audience that sends them often more than a large one that never does.

PostEase plans Facebook beside every other platform on one calendar, so the reels and lives where fans send Stars sit in the same plan as everything else. YouTube, X, LinkedIn (personal profile), Pinterest, Bluesky, and WordPress publishing are live today; Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Threads are pending each platform's own API approval.
