The short answer
Articles are X’s format for long-form writing. X’s Help Center says Articles “let you publish long-form content on X,” with text formatting, images, video, GIFs, embedded posts and links, and that once published an Article can be read and shared by anyone on X within the audience you chose.
Publishing Articles is a paid feature. X limits it to X Premium and Premium+ subscribers, subscribers to the Plus, Premium, Super and Ultra plans on The X Subscription, Premium Business and Premium Organizations. Reading them is open to everyone, and Articles are available globally.
What an Article can hold
From X’s Help Center and its developer documentation:
| Element | Supported |
|---|---|
| Text formatting | Headings, subheadings, bold, italics, strikethrough, indentation, numbered and bulleted lists |
| Media | Images, video and GIFs, plus a header image |
| Embeds | X posts, and links |
| Audience | Everyone, or Subscribers only |
| Where it lives | The Articles tab on your profile |
Writing, editing and deleting
You write Articles on x.com: open the Articles tab in the side navigation, click Write, then Publish. Editing works differently from a post. X says that to edit a published Article you choose Edit Article from its menu and confirm, which unpublishes it; you republish once your changes are made. Deleting is from the same menu.
Developers can do the same through the X API: one endpoint creates a draft Article with a title, body and optional cover media, and another publishes it. Both act on behalf of a signed-in user.
Subscriber-only Articles
Articles can sit behind X’s creator subscriptions. When publishing, choose Subscribers under Choose your audience. X’s own suggestions for using them:
| Suggestion | What X says |
|---|---|
| Say what subscribers get | Deep dives, early access, exclusive opinions, behind-the-scenes or regular series |
| Use a soft paywall | Keep some Articles free to attract readers, and reserve depth for subscribers |
| Create subscriber formats | A weekly memo, industry brief, Q&A or private breakdown |
| Promote to non-subscribers | Post a teaser that links to your subscription page |
How X says to write one
X’s Help Center notes that people skim before they read, especially on mobile, where most people use X. Its advice is to keep paragraphs to two to four lines with one idea each, add a subheading every three to five paragraphs, prefer lists to walls of text, and bold the key point in most sections. It suggests a specific title, a strong first sentence and a relevant header image, cutting 20 to 30 percent of the first draft, and ending with a takeaway or a question that invites replies.
Getting an Article read
X’s Help Center gives its own advice on growing an audience for Articles:
- Post a short teaser or question a few hours before publishing.
- Pin a new Article to your profile, especially in its first 24 to 72 hours.
- Share key excerpts as posts that link back to the full piece.
- Reply to early readers, and reshare older Articles when they become relevant again.
