The short answer
A LinkedIn newsletter is a series of articles you publish on LinkedIn about one topic, which other members subscribe to. Each new edition reaches subscribers by push, in-app and email notification, so it does not depend on the feed alone.
LinkedIn’s Help Center defines it as “a set of regularly published articles on LinkedIn, typically about a specific topic.” Any member can start one as themselves; a LinkedIn Page can start one once it meets LinkedIn’s access criteria.
Who can start one
LinkedIn sets different rules for people and for Pages:
| Author | What LinkedIn requires |
|---|---|
| A member, as themselves | Nothing more: “All LinkedIn members have access to create a newsletter on LinkedIn.” |
| A LinkedIn Page | More than 150 followers and/or connections to be evaluated, recent original content, and a good-standing record under the Professional Community Policies |
| Who acts for a Page | A super or content admin of that Page |
| A Showcase Page | Allowed, but the newsletter isn’t linked to the parent Page |
Follow or subscribe
LinkedIn keeps two separate relationships, and a newsletter lives on the second. From its newsletters FAQ:
| What differs | Follow | Subscribe |
|---|---|---|
| What you get | Some notifications about that person’s or company’s content | A notification for each article in that newsletter |
| Carries over | Does not subscribe you to the newsletter | Also makes you follow the author |
How to start one
As yourself: choose Write article on the homepage, open the Manage dropdown in the publishing tool and pick Create newsletter, then fill in the title, how often you will publish and a description. As a Page: in the Page’s admin view, choose Create, then Create a newsletter, add the same details and an image.
Subscribing is public in one way: LinkedIn says newsletters you subscribe to show on your profile, and the author can see your name, profile photo, job title and headline. Subscribers can turn off the emails and stay subscribed in the feed.
LinkedIn says you can create up to five newsletters, with any number of editions in each. Publishing the first edition creates a newsletter page, readable without logging in, and invites your followers by notification to subscribe. LinkedIn adds that when someone starts following an author with a newsletter, an invitation to subscribe is sent automatically.
Making one people keep opening
LinkedIn’s own advice is that “the most engaging newsletters specifically address a unique topic consistently enough that subscribers look forward to the next article.” That points to three choices made before the first edition:
- A topic narrow enough to name in the title, so a reader knows what the next edition will be about.
- A cadence you can keep. The frequency you pick shows readers what to expect, so choose the one you will hold.
- A short post when each edition goes out, since the article and the feed post reach people in different ways.
LinkedIn newsletters and PostEase
PostEase schedules LinkedIn posts to your personal profile, beside every other platform on one calendar. Newsletter editions are articles, written in LinkedIn’s own publishing tool; a PostEase post is a good way to point your network at each new edition. YouTube, X, LinkedIn (personal profile), Pinterest, Bluesky, and WordPress publishing are live today; Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Threads are pending each platform's own API approval.
Questions
Do you need 150 followers to start a LinkedIn newsletter?
Not as yourself: LinkedIn says all members can create one. The 150 followers and/or connections threshold applies to LinkedIn Pages.
How many newsletters can you have on LinkedIn?
LinkedIn’s Help Center says up to five, as yourself or as a Page, each with unlimited editions.
Do subscribers get the newsletter by email?
Yes. Subscribers are notified by push, in-app and email, without duplicates for the same edition, and can turn the emails off while staying subscribed.
Is following someone the same as subscribing to their newsletter?
No. Following does not subscribe you. Subscribing does make you follow the author.
