The short answer
Creator mode was a switch on LinkedIn profiles that turned on tools for people who post regularly. LinkedIn removed the switch in March 2024. Its Help Center says it was “removing the creator mode on/off toggle in the Resources section of your profile,” and that “You will still have access to the same sharing tools and analytics.”
So creator mode did not take the features with it. The parts that were about how your profile looks changed; the tools for posting and measuring stayed, for members who meet LinkedIn’s access criteria.
What changed
From LinkedIn’s Help Center page on the update:
| Feature | What happened | When |
|---|---|---|
| The on/off toggle | Removed from the Resources section of your profile | March 2024 |
| Profile hashtags (topics you post about) | Removed from the introduction section | February 2024 |
| Main profile button | Changed to Follow, with your follower count shown; you can choose Follow or Connect | March 2024 |
| About section | Moved to the top of your profile | March 2024 |
What stayed
The same page lists what members keep:
| Feature | Where it is now |
|---|---|
| LinkedIn Live, Audio Events and Newsletter | Available to members who meet the access criteria; anyone who had them with creator mode on keeps them |
| Analytics & tools | Open it by selecting the Post impressions count on the left pane of your feed |
| Creator analytics (post and audience) | From the Analytics section of your profile, or the Post impressions count |
| Suggested creator to follow | Members who had creator mode on can still be featured |
| A link in your introduction | Add a custom button to your profile |
| Connection requests that also follow | Kept for anyone whose main profile button is Follow |
Follow or Connect
The choice that used to come with creator mode is now its own setting. LinkedIn says that to put a Follow button on your profile, you “go to your settings page and set Follow as the primary action.” With Follow as the main button, someone who sends you a connection request also follows you while they wait, and keeps following your posts even if you decline, until they unfollow.
LinkedIn also offers a Follow link you can share elsewhere. It sits under Contact info in your profile introduction, under Sharing on socials, and needs a good-standing history under LinkedIn’s Professional Community Policies and a location outside mainland China. If you see Learn more under the link instead, LinkedIn says you do not meet the criteria yet.
What to do now
If you post on LinkedIn to build an audience, the old creator mode set-up comes down to a few settings:
- Set Follow as your primary action if you want readers more than connections.
- Rewrite your About section, which now sits at the top of your profile, as the first thing a new reader sees.
- Replace the old profile hashtags with a clear headline and About section saying what you post about.
- Check creator analytics from the Post impressions count, and share your Follow link in other bios.
