The short answer
Edits is a video creation app from Instagram, separate from the Instagram app, for recording and editing short videos on a phone. It has its own camera, a layered timeline, captions, effects and colour controls, and it exports to Instagram as a reel or to your camera roll for any other platform.
Meta launched it on 22 April 2025, describing it as “a new video creation app that helps you make great videos directly on your phone,” and said it was built for videos posted on any platform, beyond Instagram and Facebook.
What it can do
From Instagram’s Help Center pages on Edits:
| Area | What Edits offers |
|---|---|
| Camera | HD, 2K or 4K recording, teleprompter, green screen, timer, speed and retouch |
| Timeline | Each clip, text, music or other layer as its own clip; split, speed, slip, replace and duplicate |
| Text and captions | Hundreds of fonts, and generated captions you can style and correct |
| Colour | White balance, HSL, colour wheels and curves |
| Audio | A music library, imported audio, voiceover with an on-screen script, and sound effects |
| Other tools | Cutouts to remove a background, stickers, filters, effects and overlays |
| Projects | Rename, duplicate or delete; deleted projects can be restored for 7 days |
Where the video goes
Edits is built for Instagram but does not lock videos to it:
| Destination | How it works |
|---|---|
| Instagram, as a reel | Share to Instagram from the project; the reel shows an icon saying it was made with Edits |
| Instagram, as a draft | Saved draft stays linked to the project; re-export after changes to update it |
| Shared directly from the app, per Meta’s announcement | |
| Anywhere else | Download to the camera roll, watermark free, and post where you like |
Things to know
An export is a copy. Instagram’s Help Center says changes made in Edits after exporting “will not apply to the video that’s already been exported,” and deleting a project in Edits does not delete it from your camera roll or anywhere you posted it.
Edits keeps growing. Meta’s December 2025 update added effects that attach to specific people or objects, Reels you can remix inside a video with credit to the original, title cards, storyboards for planning scripts and clips, and templates.
Who it suits
Instagram’s Help Center describes Edits as an app for Android and iPhone, so it is built around editing on a phone.
- Creators who film and edit on a phone and post mostly to Instagram.
- Anyone who wants a teleprompter, generated captions and colour controls in one app.
- Creators posting the same video to several platforms, since the camera-roll export carries no watermark.
Edits and PostEase
A video exported from Edits to your camera roll can be uploaded to PostEase and scheduled to every platform you have connected. If you would rather edit on a computer, PostEase Studio is a video editor in the browser that exports MP4 and schedules it in the same place. YouTube, X, LinkedIn (personal profile), Pinterest, Bluesky, and WordPress publishing are live today; Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Threads are pending each platform's own API approval.
