The short answer
LinkedIn Top Voices is LinkedIn’s program for recognizing members whose posts educate and inform others. LinkedIn’s Help Center describes Top Voices as “a select group of global experts, leaders, changemakers, public figures and innovators on LinkedIn,” and says active members of the program get a blue badge on their profile identifying them as an expert.
It is invite-only. LinkedIn reviews content shared on the platform to find new Top Voices, reviews nominations every quarter, and assesses and renews badges twice a year. You cannot buy or apply for the badge directly, though you can nominate yourself or someone else.
How LinkedIn chooses Top Voices
LinkedIn lists the factors it considers, “including but not limited to” these:
| Factor | What LinkedIn looks for |
|---|---|
| Platform presence | Consistent content and regular engagement with the community |
| Quality and originality | High-quality contributions with a distinctive voice and unique perspective |
| Subject matter expertise | Insight on professional topics, such as news, commentary and analysis about an industry, company or local economy |
| Safety, trust and professionalism | Profile, content and interactions that follow the Professional Community Policies |
| Prominence | Editors may grant badges to members with outsized influence in their local economy, job market or industry |
How long the badge lasts
From LinkedIn’s Top Voices FAQ:
| Question | What LinkedIn says |
|---|---|
| How often are badges reviewed? | Assessed and renewed twice a year |
| How long does a new Top Voice keep it? | At least six months, then renewable while they meet the core requirements |
| Can it be removed early? | Yes, at LinkedIn’s discretion, and always for not meeting the Professional Community Policies |
| How are nominations handled? | Through a form, reviewed quarterly |
What LinkedIn recommends
LinkedIn says any member can reach a wide audience with their posts, Top Voice or not, and recommends habits that also lead toward the badge: post regularly, share knowledge on professional topics such as industry insight and news analysis, focus on content that helps others in a non-promotional way, and vary topics and formats, including video and newsletters. It is explicit that members who mainly or only promote paid services are not considered.
Showing or hiding the badge
The badge can be shown or hidden from your profile’s intro: open your profile, click the edit icon in the introduction section, find the Top Voice Badge section, and check or uncheck Show badge in my intro. LinkedIn notes a hidden badge also does not appear in your Skills section. That help page, last updated about two years ago, also describes a second, Community Top Voices badge; the current Top Voices FAQ describes only the blue, invite-only badge.
